Jeremy Creek Farm is currently home to some Spanish Goats and one (retired) Navy goat. There are 237 acres (mostly wooded) lying on both sides of Jeremy Creek in Halifax County. The farm was originally part of a Governor’s land grant in Halifax and Pittsylvania counties to Caleb Dodson in 1782. (The grant refers to “Jeremy’s Fork.”)
Owned by descendents of Caleb until the passing of Roy Dodson in 1990, the farm was purchased by Ralph and Pam Alderson in 1991 from Roy’s widow, Mattie D. Dodson.
Many of the Dodsons are buried in the family graveyard on the farm. There are also markers indicating that some are buried on nearby farms.
The farm house was built by Peter S. Dodson around 1917-1918. The house survived a 1979 fire, thanks to the local volunteer fire department. Charred wood can still be seen in the attic. During the reconstruction after the fire, some of the columns were rearranged. Few of the original fixtures remain.
